Julie’s path into ceramics began in high school, where her Year 12 major work was a series of hand-built spherical forms, finished with an oxide wash. This early introduction and experimental approach to ceramics defines her practice to this day.
Over the following years, she expanded her skills through various courses and workshops, steadily gaining a more technical foundation, while holding on to her innate desire to ‘think outside the box’.
She has experimented with pit firing, saggars and raku methods, firing her pieces using a weed burner and a kiln she built utilising a fibre lined, re-purposed oil drum.
Always driven by a hands-on curiosity that continues to shape her work today, Julie’s work is characterised by bright colours and designs. She is constantly testing and developing her own slips and glazes, firmly believing that every firing is a chance to learn something new.
