August Tea and Talks – Bathurst Gardening Club

The Bathurst Gardeners’ Club is in it’s 35th year now, starting with 12 members back in 1991 by Mandy Woods and Ros Wheatley.

Terri Crumpler, currently the President of the club, is our guest presenter for the Tea and Talks at T.Arts for August. Come along to hear about the activities of the club, especially if you might be interested in joining, and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea. The cost is $25 per person and bookings are essential. You can book at the gallery at 75 Keppel St or online.

The objective of the club is to educate and inform members and the community of Bathurst on horticultural issues through meetings, which are on the 1st Sunday of the month at 2pm, usually. They encourage gardening practices without the use of chemicals and with water conservation in mind and aim to encourage the beautification of Bathurst through home gardens and public spaces. Having gardens and trees makes such a difference to the environment in many ways. The act of gardening is good for your mind body and soul, and gardening is an artistic outlet, but you do need knowledge of the local climate and soils.

There are currently 169 members, young and old, and between them possess a wealth of knowledge which is shared at meetings.

Every year they have an Open Garden Weekend called “The Spring Spectacular”. Garden lovers come from all over, which is great for tourism and encourages gardening. All profits are donated to local charities. This year it on October 31st and 1st November.
